The old "problem-reaction-solution or crisis governance" but we know it's fiddling at the margins.

Find a problem, make it a crisis, ramp fear, present a solution and win votes (power).

Your 5 (libertarian) bullet points nail it. Get out of the way and get out of our lives, Big Government.

Let's look at a little history. Some will remember when banks introduced ATM's, how convenient we all thought, and they were free. Banks started closing branches and shedding staff. We became used to this, and then who would have thought they would introduce fees to use the ATM's? With the lack of staff making it inconvenient to carry out transactions in person. Internet banking became the only convenient way to transact with your bank. Well, credit cards were also convenient; remember BankCard? Who would have thought that the banks would start applying fees for the average person to withdraw their own money to pay for everyday items? Now we are treated like criminals if we offer cash. Tap your phone or whatever, however convenient, but we will chatge you to use your own money. And Albaross is thinking of reducing the charges on debit cards. Yeah, right, Albo. Are there a lot of flying pigs around Copacabana?
