The Business Council of Australia is calling for state governments to be granted the power to strip low-performing councils of their role in making building applications decisions, under a proposed overhaul of planning approval processes to increase the nation’s housing supply.
Under the proposed reforms to “turbocharge” housing approvals, decisions on significant projects would also be elevated to state governments and a new mechanism introduced to allow builders to compel authorities to make a determination on stalled planning applications.
What evidence is there that bumping approvals from local to state government would “speed them up”?
The only certainty of such an idiotic proposal would be that taxes would need to increase to finance and build another bureaucratic leviathan. It’s certain that council rates won’t decline.
Is there any quarter of Australia’s intellectual elite that does not love them so big and interventionist government?

I thought the BCA would improve after the former boss, Jennifer Wasteofspace was replaced. It seems that the rest of them are still infected with the useless virus.
