Super tax or Supercillious

I have now heard it all. We have gone from the idiotic to the moronic.

The arguements around the Stage 3 tax cuts was pretty bad - that it was not fair that people who did not pay tax weren’t getting a tax cut but this is the bees knees. And from a former Justice of the High Court of Australia.

Writing in the Australian this week, James Kirby notes:

Separately, the sex discrimination case suggests that women living longer than men will consequently be paying more ongoing tax – whether they live to match actuarial assumptions or not. The objection was first raised by former High Court Justice Susan Crennan.

Let me just repeat what was written:

women living longer than men will consequently be paying more ongoing tax.

So basically, it is unfair that women, who live longer than men, will pay more ongoing tax.

Riiight.

Now I know that the Treasury would be happy to confiscate all the capital from the dead, and the living for that matter, but to suggest that, for fairness sake, that dead people should continue to pay the government’s crazy super tax is a bit much for me.
