Newly selected, not elected, Liberal Party Senator and Former NSW Liberal Party president Maria Kovacic this week delivered her maiden speech in parliament. In this speech, Kovacic (as reported by the AFR) said:
The Coalition should consider a cap on negative gearing for investment properties and working with the states to replace stamp duty, a NSW senator says, part of plans to improve housing supply and reform the tax system.
Yes. A Liberal Party Senator has proposed increasing taxes to improve housing supply.
By this logic, the government should make taxes 100% and this will lead to universal housing. Oh wait. They did that somewhere else before. Soviet Union I believe. How did that work out?
Don’t laugh. This is the kind of policy thinking that will take a Liberal Party representative to the Treasury portfolio.
Dean, did some minor edits to version you read.
Best,
Peter
This is almost as bad as Dutton wanting another referendum if this one fails. Talk about failing to read the room.
