And so yes it has come to pass. The Commonwealth Government has dolled out $2 billion of other people’s money to bail out the Whyalla Steelworks. Let’s put aside for a moment all the other green subsidies provided also.
Australian government like throwing around other people’s money like it is candy.
The rationale … of course it is to save jobs and that Whyalla was the last steel something or other manufacturer in Australia.
But where is the taxpayer bailout for Oceania Glass - the last architectural glass manufacturer in Australia?
What about the taxpayer bailout for Qenos - the last plastics manufacturer in Australia?
What about a subsidy for Incitec Pivot - one of the largest manufacturers of fertilizer who relocated to the US?
I’m not advocating for any subsidies, but notice the theme. They are all going broke as a result of the government’s energy policy. Every single one are manufacturers who use lots of energy.
And so in classic government logic, let’s deliberately increase the price of energy and then provide subsidies to ameliorate the effects of the deliberate policy.
This is the same logic used to justify subsidies for consumers.
Reverse policy direction? No. Just more layer upon layer of taxes and subsidies and the necessary public servants to oversee it.
Stoopid is as stoopid does.
Yes Australians keep voting for this.
Looking forward to seeing more of that fool Emerson singing and dancing.
Hear hear
No wipe out in Whyalla my A$$ !!
