But of course it was on the front page of the Sydney Morning Herald:
You see:
Sydneysiders could save $730 a year by switching from gas to electricity in the home, even without installing solar panels.
And you get shares in the Sydney Opera House also.
According to the crackpots at Lock the Gate, handily given oxygen by the SMH:
Shifting from gas to electric appliances can save money, address cost of living issues, create jobs and benefit the climate – what’s not to like?
What’s not to like? The huge capital cost to retrofit homes and businesses. That’s what’s not to like.
Take yours truly. Within the last 5 years, I needed to replace both the gas heater and gas water system. Total capital outlay - perhaps $10,000. To replace these would presumably require a similar capital outlay. I would need to pay $10,000 upfront to get $730 per annum. And the $730 saving is uncertain, an average estimate and unlikely to persist.
That is what is known in the finance industry as a SH*T investment.
Now my retrofit would me relatively simple. What about those people in small apartments with space constraints that have instant gas heating? How are they to implement this genius strategy? Build a mezzanine?
And this dear friends is the problem with climate economics brought to you by idiots. They conveniently assume away things to make their case.
You know …. like ignoring the costs of building and maintaining 100s of kilometres of transmission infrastructure to reach renewable generate in remote areas. Not to mention the opportunity cost of not being able to use vast tracks of land for production.
You know production … the activity of feeding oneself.
The Lock the Gate model does not include the up-front cost of appliances because it assumes they will be replaced only as needed, and it is lobbying for governments to assist households.
And from where does government money come? Taxes. So I will be taxed to get money back less a government management commission. Smart. Really smart.
Lock the Gate - yes. These people get to vote. They also get to reproduce.
Think about that.
"Lock the Gate - yes. These people get to vote. They also get to reproduce." Loved this comment Spart. Says a lot about the intelligence of at least half of the population.
The only way to stop this madness is to build wind and solar farms right in the heart of these inner-city electorates. Only then will they suffer the consequences of their virtue signaling wankery.
