For those who think that the Coalition’s recent electoral drubbing might teach them a lesson, think again.
Just look at their reaction to the Albanese government’s superannuation tax.
Former Reserve Bank board members Donald McGauchie and Roger Corbett and major Liberal Party donors have implored the Coalition to stay at the negotiating table with Labor on its superannuation tax proposal, declaring a deal would be a lesser evil than allowing the introduction of an unrealised gains tax.
Yes. Members of the Liberal Party kakistocracy are emploring the parliamentary party to support a massive tax increase. They can negotiate on the margins, but should support a massive tax increase.
This is the type of thinking that got Peter Dutton and Angus Taylor to reject Labor’s token income tax cut.
For the avoidance of doubt, Spartacus does not have $3m in his super account. If he had a quarter of that, he would be delighted. But this tax increase is just that. A tax increase which will feed the over bearing, freedom suffocating, economic prosperity destroying government in Canberra.
If they had any spine, any principle, and brains, the Liberals would demand changes AND a counter balance reduction in income tax so that, everything else equal, total tax receipts would not increase.
It would also be the moral thing to do to reduce what are amongst the world’s highest income taxes.
But again, that would require spine, principle, and brains. 3 important things that are lacking from the modern (il)Liberal Party.
I reject the premise of the proposition. A Liberal Party would NEVER vote to increase taxes. But that’s the problem. Australia has a Liberal Party in Name Only. LINOs. Top to bottom. Left to right.
This is not taxation, it is taking your property without compensation. The bills are not sent to your superfund. they are sent to you. They are simply taking cash from you. They are not taxing the superfunds, they are using them to identify you and taking some of your cash. In SA they have a law if you have vacant property they can just take it, without compensation. Cant believe Victoria has not implemented this yet. Id prefer it if our governments just came clean and told us heir true goal which is they want tax to be 100%. If you say things they like, or just shut up, they will give you some money to live on. Dont like it? Then dont vote for us.
There are only three factors of production - land, labour and capital goods. All incomes arise to these as rent, wages and profits. Instead of trying to tax the incomes of all just go for the one with no cost of production, which can't rust out, emigrate or slack off. Bring back a uniform Federal land value charge and abolish income tax altogether. Arab oil states collect their rent royalties and can be tax havens.
