Jaw. Drop.
Was just reading Chris Kenny’s latest piece in the Australian - about his coming documentary on the 9 years of recent Coalition government:
I did not appreciate the extensive political career Kenny has had, but the closing paragraph in his column is what really caught my eye:
(Scott) Morrison strips the choice back to the bone: “We (Liberals) believe Australians can be amazing and we just want to help them achieve that. And when they’re amazing, the country’s amazing. The Labor Party believes the government can be amazing. I think I’ll go with the people.”
I am regularly confused. Why is it that politicians, having LOST high office, say the most interesting things. And reflect ideas that they had no interest while in office?
The essence of this view expressed by Morrison is that societies do best when governments are small and people are left to their own devices. I completely agree with this - and history shows this to by true.
Yet, such a view is almost a perfect antithesis of the Morrison Government. A government of perpetual regulation, taxation, and spending.
I am left to ask - are they lying to us when they are in office or when they are out of office?
Perhaps I could paraphrase Thomas Sowell:
There are only two ways of telling the complete truth--anonymously and (politically) posthumously.
