Is it a crime to insult someone in public?
German prosectutors - all 3:
Yes.
Interviewer:
And it’s a crime to insult them online as well?
German prosectutors:
Yes.
The fine could be even higher if you insult someone on the internet.
Interviewer:
If somebody posts something that’s not true and then somebody else reposts or likes it, are they committing a crime?
German prosectutors:
In the case of reposting, it is a crime as well.
Perhaps these laws explain why the nationality of the people who drive cars into crowds can’t be reported. Might be considered an insult.
