Text from the economist:
Adjusted for its population, Australia has the biggest public-sector workforce in the ILO data, with 143 employees per 1,000 people—roughly 29% of the country’s workers. At the bottom of the ranking, Niger has just seven public-sector workers per 1,000 people. America’s rate is 64, exceeding Argentina’s but not Britain’s (see chart 1).
The most bloated public sector in the world.
Worse than Britain and France.
Enough to warm the cockles of the heart.
(Israel is up there because of its military).
And they don't build Snowy schemes or SEC power stations anymore, highways are sold off and tolled and water supply is a tax collection mechanism - cost of living crisis anyone? Don't worry we've been working hard to make it happen for years. Remember when income could buy a home and support a family?
After the federal election we can be sure that the ratio of public servants to the popultion will increase. Also the tax take from the population will increase to fund this increase.
