Ok. Somewhere between 24 and 48 hours before this pre-nightmare becomes a nightmare.
Unusually for Sparty, he has not pre voted. His 2 sons are voting in their first Federal election and he was going to accompany them (and to strongly recommend they place Hamas/Greens last). But they are working and will need to make their own times.
Notwithstanding, this is Sparty’s plan, appart from placing Hamas/Greens last.
Unknown to many, in one of the many disgraceful bipartisan hiestst perpetrated by the major parties, candidates who get more than 4% of the primary vote get somewhere between $4 and $5 per primary vote.
Who are the big winners. Of course the big parties.
So, as Sparty’s contribution to keeping the budget decificit in control, he intends to vote 1 for the candidate least likely to get 4% of the primary. In Sparty’s electorate, that would likely be the Trumpet of Morons candidate. After that, I will vote 2 for the candidate I would prefer. And in the end, last, Hamas/Greens.
Consider your voting plans. Perhaps you too can save the budget $4-$5.
With regard to the outcome, it looks like a Labor win.
But allow me to suggest that there are outcomes worse than a Labor win. That would be an increase in the ratio of National Party MPs to Liberal Party MPs in the Coalition.
This would give the Nats more seats in shadow Cabinet and more say on Coalition policy.
This would be TERRIBLE.
With the absolute and categorical exception of Matt Canavan, and perhaps 1 or 2 others, the Nats are socialists in RM Williams clothing.
They don’t care about taxes or regulations or spending, unless their constitutents are taxes less than everyone else or receive more subsidies than anyone else.
All pigs are equal, but some are more equal than others.
This is not the National Party of Tim Fisher or John Anderson. This is the National Party of Barnacle Joyce. The gift that keeps on giving.
I suspect that the only exit ramp off this highway to hell is a new party to emerge. As has happened elsewhere. The risk however is that the garbage rejected from the LNP infest it. Much like the rubbish rejected the Labor Party has infested the Liberal Party.
That payment for each primary vote has always struck me as the peak of political grift and cynicism.
First they force you to vote on the threat of fines, and then they pay themselves for it!
What a deal!
Regarding the Nats, I think you're being a bit too harsh on them. They have ALWAYS been rural socialists at heart - just look at Bob Katter, who I believe started off as a National in the Bjelke-Petersen Queensland government, and then set up his own party, because the Nats were not sufficiently pro-rural subsidies.
Katter is also a 'proud CFMEU member and supporter'. His most successful policy is to whine incessantly about how FNQ is getting short-changed when government stolen goods are being handed out.
Plenty of people vote for his Katter Australia Party, even in Mt Isa, which is not exactly rural.
But then again, we are all socialists these days. With a green tinge to boot.
It makes zero difference just who forms the next government.
A Tea Party..
