The top of the front page of today’s The Australian was a cracker. An absolute cracker.
Twas an homage to Captain Mediocrity (Peter Costello) by Jamie Packer.
According to the story:
“I think being chairman of Nine is all he (Mr Costello) has left and he will try and keep the job for as long as he can,” Mr Packer told The Australian at the weekend.
I don’t have a particular view of Jamie, but did like his father’s (Kerry’s) performance at that famous parliamentary inquiry into media ownership where a younger dud, in Peter Costello, was also seen.
As readers will know, I am not a fan of John Howard. But I will forever be grateful for his decision to not get out of the way for no ticker Costello to become Prime Minister.
Australia should forever be grateful for that one at least.

I do miss K Packer fronting the governments of the day. Such a way with words.....
